5 Ways To Live Your Best Outdoor Life This Winter

Staying warm in your campervan during winter adventures is essential for comfort and safety. From the right gear to insulation and heating options, there are several ways to keep the cold at bay. Start by investing in thermal layers, woolen garments, and insulated bedding to retain body heat. Adding a fluffy rug or carpeting can also make a big difference, providing comfort and insulation from cold floors. A high-quality windscreen cover helps reduce heat loss and condensation, while a diesel heater provides extra warmth after outdoor activities. Don’t forget an emergency kit with essentials like extra blankets and food. With proper preparation, your campervan can be a cosy retreat for all your winter escapades.

While winter is officially due to arrive on 22nd December this year, it’s cold enough to feel like it at the moment. But when has a bit of frost ever stopped us from heading out in the van, eh?

Staying warm while you’re out and about living your best outdoor life is essential. For one, it makes enjoying the scenery easier as you curl up in the warmth with a steaming brew. And it helps to stave off colds and keep you getting out and about enjoying the fresh air and beauty of the season. So, we’ve bought together 5 tips for staying warm in the camper van this winter

Be Prepared For Cold Weather

When it comes to winter adventures in your campervan, taking steps to stay warm is essential. A well-designed campervan conversion can significantly contribute to keeping the cold at bay. For instance, our Balmoral conversion offers full insulation and custom-made curtains or blinds to fend off draughts and maintain a cosy interior.  You can also add a diesel heater to really make things more comfortable.

Preparing for cold weather can be as simple as being equipped with the right gear. Heat is often lost through the head and feet, so it’s advisable to bring along thermal layers to wear under your clothing. These insulating garments provide an extra barrier against the cold, helping to retain body heat. Pairing them with thick socks and a snug hat will ensure you stay comfortably toasty in chilly temperatures.

When choosing materials, wool is a superior insulator compared to breathable fabrics like cotton. Opting for a woolly hat, a thick blanket, and warm base layers will protect against the winter chill, particularly during frosty nights. Wool’s natural ability to retain heat makes it ideal for combating the cold and ensuring comfort throughout your campervan journeys.

Additionally, consider layering your bedding with blankets or investing in a high-quality thermal sleeping bag. This will help insulate you during the night, keeping you warm and cosy even when the temperature drops.

By being prepared for cold weather with the proper clothing and insulation choices, you can create a comfortable and inviting environment within your campervan. Embrace the beauty of winter landscapes while ensuring you stay warm and snug, making your campervan adventures all the more enjoyable.

Invest In a Rug Or a Carpet

There’s nothing quite as unwelcoming as stepping onto a cold laminate floor on a chilly morning. To combat this, consider investing in a fluffy rug or carpeting throughout your campervan to elevate your comfort and warmth levels.

A plush rug not only pampers your feet when you first wake up but also acts as an effective insulator, providing an additional layer of cosiness. By placing a soft rug near your sleeping area, you can start your day with a delightful sensation underfoot, shielding yourself from the discomfort of cold floors. Extending this luxury to the entire campervan by installing carpeting can further amplify the benefits, enveloping the space in a snug ambiance.

One of the advantages of using rugs is their versatility. They can be easily moved and repositioned for efficient cleaning and maintenance. If you’ve been out exploring and happen to bring back muddy footprints (or pawprints!), you can effortlessly clean the floor beneath the rug without worrying about permanent stains or damage. This flexibility ensures that your campervan remains inviting and pristine, no matter where your adventures take you.

Moreover, rugs and carpets contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of your campervan, adding warmth, texture, and personality to the interior. Whether you choose a rug with a bold design to make a statement or opt for a more neutral colour palette for a serene atmosphere, the choice is yours. The visual impact of these floor coverings enhances your campervan’ s aesthetics and creates a homely and inviting environment you’ll relish spending time in.

By incorporating rugs or considering carpeting throughout your campervan, you elevate your space’s practicality and visual appeal. Embrace the indulgence of a soft, warm floor underfoot and enjoy the ease of keeping your campervan clean, ensuring that every moment of your journey is filled with comfort, style, and a sense of homeliness.

Get a Windscreen Cover

A good quality windscreen cover can do wonders for keeping your campervan at a comfortable temperature. Variations with a reflective insulated layer will also help to keep the extreme cold at bay.  We supply a full set of silver reflective screens with all of our campervans.

An external windscreen cover will also work to reduce heat loss through the windscreen and reduce condensation, particularly when you’re cooking.

Windscreen covers can also be effective in summer too, helping to keep the interior of your campervan cool and comfortable – so definitely worth using.

Bring an Emergency Kit Along With You

Getting stranded in wintery weather is no fun. It’s cold, wet, and most likely entirely unpleasant for everyone involved! But sometimes, it’s unavoidable, and being prepared is the best way to see you through.

Always make sure you bring along an emergency kit, just in case. Bottles of water, extra food, more blankets, a sleeping bag, and a torch can help to keep you safe and comfortable in the event of a problem.

Try a Diesel Heater

Diesel heaters can provide a welcome blast of warmth, particularly after chilly winter walks.

When using a heater, take the necessary steps to stay safe. Never leave a heater running when you’re not there to keep an eye on it.

The Denby Balmoral Deluxe Conversion comes with a diesel heater as standard and features a power management system, consumer unit, and leisure battery, as well as power points in various voltages.
