We’re big fans of everything Volkswagen here at Denby. So of course the prospect of new campervans heading our way is an exciting one. Are you curious about the new VW Grand California? Of course you are! In this handy mini-guide, we’re giving you full access to the specs, layout and price of Volkswagen’s newest kid on the block.
What to Expect From The New Campervans
As you may already know, the design of the Grand California motorhome is based on the Volkswagen Crafter. And it’s USP is definitely space! The basic 600 model measures in at a not-so-modest six metres. And within that you’ll find a fully kitted out bathroom with shower, toilet and space-saving sink. As well as a living room and enough room for beds to sleep 2 adults and 2 children.
As you might imagine, there is some size difference between the standard 600 model and the Grand California 680. When it comes to your sleeping arrangements the 600 is a winner for families living the van life. All thanks to the rooftop sleeping space. The perfect area for bedtimes stories and sneaking midnight snacks, a sliding mechanism in the roof transforms the interior space into a cosy bedroom complete with ladder, built-in lights and the (optional) skylight.
Get To Grips With The Mod Cons
Alongside the extra space and clever details, the Grand California also comes with a range of mod cons. And just a quick look at them will make you wonder how you ever lived without them! The standard 600 model features motion-sensing lights, USB plugs (for all-important phone and camera charges), gas hob, 70 litre fridge and a warming air and water-based heater powered by gas or electricity.
There’s also lots of clever storage spaces to be discovered, including integrated shelving and storage in the bathroom and outer built in storage that’s perfect for stowing away your camping chairs and other equipment.
Under The Hood
If you’re a sucker for the specs, we’ve got those too! Clever touches such as Front Assist, front and rear parking sensors, Crosswind Assist, and Driver Alert will make your travels to and from any adventure a breeze. And under the hood you’l find a powerful 177 PS diesel engine with front-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox!
How Much Is The VW Grand California?
And now for the question on everyone’s lips. How much will the VW Grand California set you back?
The 600 model will cost you a cool £68,899 inc. VAT (without on-the-road charges and optional extras). And the 680 model rises to £78,145 with the inclusion of VW’s 4Motion 4 wheel drive system.
You can check out the Grand California in the flesh between October 15th – October 20th at the Motorhome and Caravan Show at the Birmingham NEC.

🏔 In awe of these mountains, fjords, scenery, landscape, cabins, forests, clouds. Just everything! It sounds so obvious, but it’s not until you’re here; immersed within the very place that you feel it right down to your bones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had no idea mountains like this even existed in Europe until we first hit the road in 2014, crossing into Norway and not knowing where to look because everywhere was just picturesque. If you have the chance to visit Norway just do it, you won’t regret it 🇳🇴 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #vanlife #homeiswhereyouparkit #campvibes #vanlifeeurope #getoutstayout #travelstoke #vanlifediaries #lifeofadventure #vanliving #wildernessculture #mountains #adventuremobile #ourcamplife #lifeontheroad #landscape #freedomvessel #campervan #projectvanlife #scandinavia #vanlifers #adventureculture #wildcamping #camping #homeonwheels #stayandwander #themountainiscalling #getoutside #theoutbound #theindieprojects #vanlifeexplorers

The town of Bibury feels more like a movie set for a Disney fairytale than a real life village, but a village it is! Last week, our insta buddy @readysetjetset came to visit, and as she’d never set foot in the Cotswolds before – we took it upon ourselves to be her tour guides and show off some of the gems that the Cotswolds has to offer. Surprisingly only 627 people call Bibury home, but maybe I’ll convince David to move over there and we can bring it up to 629! Visiting the adorable little village of Bibury never gets old, and no matter how many friends we take there – it’s just as fun to pack up the bus and head over each and every time. I mean, come on – could you ever get used to how cute these houses are?! If you’re planning a visit to the area, make sure to try and spend your money with locally owned business. Actually, I might just write a blog post highlighting the local establishments to make it even easier for you! 📸 photo by @readysetjetset #sayingyesto #cotswoldlife #cotswolds #guardiantravelsnaps #visitengland #visitbritain #lovethecotswolds #staycation #discovercotswolds #englishhouses #fairytale #englishcountryside #ukpotd #capturingbritain #cottage #thisprettyengland #idealhome #countryfilemag #britishtraveljournal #vanlife #vangirlsrule #projectvanlife #vanlifedistrict #vanlifejournal #goexplore #lovetotravel #wonderfulplaces #travelmore #adventureseeker

Autumn has arrived. And what a beautiful season it is! Despite the cooling temperatures and shorter days, as we make our way through the coming months the world around us will begin to change in an explosion of colour. But when it comes to campervanning in Autumn it can be decidedly more difficult to handle the transition – mainly due to the colder, more unpredictable weather!
But if you’ve caught the bug and are chomping at the bit to get out and about in your van, check out our handy guide to autumn campervanning. You can also get your hands on our free PDF Autumn Campervanning Checklist here.
Preparation Is The Key To Success
We all know the old saying: ‘fail to prepare, prepare to fail’. And a successful campervan trip throughout autumn hinges on decent preparation. We don’t like to catastrophize, but when planning your van trip it’s best to pack what you need, and a little bit extra just in case you find yourself in a position of needing emergency supplies. We’re talking more clothes, food, blankets and (of course) water than you need, just to be sure.
In recent times, we have experienced some extreme weather throughout the seasons, especially in autumn and winter. For the seasoned campervanner, planning your route may seem a little unnecessary, but it’s worth knowing some key areas on your way that will provide a safe stopover point should stormy weather or even flooding occur. And while technology may be a wonderful thing, don’t rely on it! Make sure you pop in a paper map or A-Z before heading off on your travels – you never know when your smartphone or satnav may decide not to play ball!
Hitting the road and going wherever it may take you is a fantastically freeing adventure that provides a welcome change from the 9-5 life – but it’s no fun if you’re freezing cold. If your campervan has heating, then this will help you to stay warm but don’t forget the basics either. Before you set off be sure to stock up your van with hot water bottles, hand warmers, socks, hats, sleeping bags and extra blankets to make sure everyone stays cosy.
It’s much easier to take off a layer if you get hot than find a layer you haven’t got, so over prepare when it comes to staying warm. And don’t forget waterproof clothing and wellies for during the day time – no one likes sitting around in cold clothing after a downpour, even if you are propping up a bar at a nearby local!
Upgrade Your Campervan
A campervan conversion can be a gamechanger for your adventures throughout the year. For example, our Denby Balmoral Camper Conversion includes side kitchen units with Tambour Space Saving doors to make cooking a breeze and a comfy rock & roll bed for an even cosier nights sleep. And our Denby Weekender can be installed with a compact kitchen unit with a dual hob and sink to make cooking breakfast, lunch or dinner less of a hassle and more of a delicious occasion.
We are also able to fit a range of options you may not have considered before, such as an elevating or high-top roof, awning, cycle racks, heating and more! To speak to us about upgrading your campervan today then give us a call on 01538 382568 or email us with your requirements.
At the end of the day, getting out and about in your campervan is all about having a fun and relaxing time. And with a little bit of planning and heaps of enthusiasm you can be sure to enjoy the trip of a lifetime whatever the time of year!
